Local mom and accomplished performer and teacher extraordinaire Ms. Alison has been a professional dancer and actress for over 28 years – but what truly lights her up is inspiring kids and people through dance and expression. “I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to discover their unique talents and explore their creativity in a positive and supportive setting,” she says. “My goal is to promote diversity and acceptance by celebrating differences and encouraging collaboration. I strive to foster a sense of belonging and community by providing a space where every child feels valued and respected.” A team. A Community. A family! Rise Up And Dance was established to create a safe environment where everyone feels lifted up and supported. By learning and performing choreographed routines, new neural connections can be formed and cognitive development improved. In addition to dance, Ms. Alison leads self empowerment projects and emphasizes community project involvement to reminds kids that everyone is part of the woven thread within our families, our neighborhoods, and our world! Elizabeth House

Empowering pregnant and parenting women in need to reclaim their lives and build successful family legacies. For two-plus decades, Elizabeth House has been the only Residential Program in the entire San Gabriel Valley that embraces pregnant mothers and their children (up to age five). Since its beginning in 1993, Elizabeth House has committed to meeting needs in this community among the most vulnerable. California is the epicenter of homelessness in this country, and many of the families affected by this are headed by single women. Elizabeth House takes a trauma-informed approach that addresses physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs in both women and their children. Often, the team becomes family to the women in need who long for a safe and supportive place to belong. Without exception, the women and children who seek services do so because of difficult life experiences inclusive of poverty, domestic violence, generational family trauma, foster care, substance dependence, and more. Elizabeth House is built on understanding the devastating impact of trauma and believes in the power of Christ to heal and transform all lives. For this reason, the organization provides holistic support, taking the time necessary to get to root causes in order to build afresh. Elizabeth House is in it as long as it takes with the women and children in its programs and creates a personalized experience and plan for each one. The organization is committed to life-long service. Year after year, the team is proud of how much these women accomplish in reclaiming their lives and building successful futures.  The organization’s Residential Program can accommodate up to six young families at a time. Residential clients stay through the duration of their pregnancies and for up to four months after their babies are born, living in a supportive, home-like setting, and receiving a full range of care. This includes case management, intensive professional counseling, access to healthcare, parent education, job training, mother-to-mother mentoring, scholarship support, baby supplies, and more. While started as a residential program has grown to include life-long Alumni Services and a Community-Based Program through the organization’s Center for Mother & Child Wellbeing. Alumni Services allows Elizabeth House to see its former residents through for the long haul, and the Community-Based Program provides services to pregnant and parenting women who do not need shelter but do need support. Pasadena Humane

To lead the way toward a compassionate and caring community for all animals. Pasadena Humane is a donor-supported, nonprofit organization that provides animal care and services for homeless and owned animals in the Greater Los Angeles Area. For more than 117 years, we’ve promoted compassion and care for all animals through lifesaving programs and services to the community that support the human-animal bond and keep pets healthy and safe. In 2020, we had a combined 91.5% live release rate for dogs, cats and critters and saved 100% of healthy and safe animals. Services include: Lost & Found Animal Care & Control Owner Assistance Shelter Shop Health & Wellness Pet Training Licensing Wildlife Pasadena Humane was founded in 1903 by a local Methodist group as “The Pasadena Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Dumb Animals.” Like many turn of the century humane societies, Pasadena Humane worked to ensure the humane treatment of draft animals, as well as rescuing and rehoming orphaned and abused children. Companion animals gradually replaced working animals as Pasadena Humane’s main focus, as working horses were retired in favor of modern machines. In 1914, we purchased the property where today’s shelter is located on Raymond Avenue. The oldest building at our shelter dates back to 1929 and is located behind the modern-day dog kennels. The historic building on Raymond Avenue, which currently houses our adoptions office and animal resource center was completed in 1932, and provided a source of employment to local families during the Great Depression.  In the post-war years, Pasadena Humane expanded its number of dog kennels, built new cat housing and additional storage facilities. In 1984, Pasadena Humane was recognized as a Cultural Heritage Landmark by the City of Pasadena.  The shelter remained essentially untouched until a major renovation was completed in the mid-90s, which greatly expanded onsite animal capacity in a park-like setting and created a dedicated space for humane education activities. In 2014, Pasadena Humane doubled in size with the opening of the Animal Care Center. This new campus includes a low-cost public spay/neuter clinic, behavior and training center, updated dog boarding kennels and expanded retail store. In 2015, the Neely Cat Center and Critter House opened, providing cats, rabbits and other critters an inviting, dedicated space of their own. With campus renovations complete, attention has turned to program development. In the last five years, Pasadena Humane has adopted progressive sheltering practices focused on increasing adoptions, saving the lives of more animals and helping guardians keep their pets.  Find them at:361 S.
