Free Seminar About the Fentanyl Crisis

South Pasadena Library Community Room 1115 El Centro St., South Pasadena, CA, United States

Free Seminar About the Fentanyl Crisis In California and nationally, there has been a rise inΒ deaths associated with fentanyl poisoning. According to the Centers for Disease ControlΒ and Prevention, in 2021 alone, 80,816 people died in the U.S. of overdoses thatΒ primarily involved fentanyl, commonly added as a filler to other drug substances,Β unknown to the buyer, which results in many unintentional fatal overdoses.Β To deal with this crisis, Huntington Health, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, recentlyΒ launched a free fentanyl education program for the community. Huntington-affiliatedΒ emergency department physician Ted Peck, MD, and clinical pharmacist specialist EvanΒ Adintori, PharmD, BCPS, and their community outreach team are spearheading theΒ program, which will offer a free seminar for parentsΒ The seminar will cover the dangers ofΒ fentanyl, the pervasiveness of the drug in the community and what to do if someoneΒ overdoses. They will also provide information about Narcan, a nasal spray used toΒ reverse or reduce the effects of opioids. Training for administering Narcan for fentanylΒ poisoning will be offered as well. When: Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Where: The Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro Street, South Pasadena, CA.
