LOVE OUTSHINES THE MOON is coming back for a special anniversary matinee at Jeweled Universe, our home in South Pasadena.
Synopsis
It’s a romance revival in this merry musical, where wholehearted happiness, high-jinks and hilarity meet in a seaside resort. A dapper actor/would-be radio producer pitches to the Lux soap company “A True Love Radio Road Show Program”, and while scouting for talent on a moonlit pleasure pier, falls for a pretty & plucky, lovelorn singer/diarist. Just starting out, they don’t have much, just grit and imagination, but love lights their way. She writes the initial episode based on their romance. He produces it and their story captivates the nation, making them the reality stars of the Jazz Age and catapulting them from radio theatre onto the big screen and beyond.

What started in autumn of 2021- as a single show with a nugget of an idea, kicked-off a 14-month development residency, creating “The Love Outshines the Moon”-iverse. These workshop performances were wildly popular with the audience -who delighted in the post-lockdown community this show created- as people came together to enjoy the monthly production process, dress up and watch the show evolve into a bonafide jukebox musical. It was so popular that nearly every month, the seating was at capacity.
Three years after that last performance, we’re welcoming you back to Jeweled Universe to mark our humble start 5 years ago. We are cranking-up the engine and jump-starting the show for a special matinee, which will set our new course moving forward. (“What could the future hold?” The Hollywood ending hinted at in the show gets it’s own soundtrack -we’ve already recorded it- and a companion Art Deco wedding book is in the works.) Just know that your enthusiasm and support can help fuel the momentum for the next exciting leg of the journey!
We’re so happy and excited to breathe life into these characters again, sing these wonderful Jazz Age era songs and entertain you with this whimsical and winsome show. Truly, it’s a tuneful tonic for troubling times! Be there to experience that whole-hearted, happy-go-lucky atmosphere! As ever, vintage & fine attire is encouraged; dress the part and you’ll be the cat’s pajamas!
