Meet Azelle Santa Ana, owner of The Maya Salon on Mission Street. Azelle describes the salon as a place not only for your hair and skin needs but where their goal is to make you feel beautiful inside and out. The Maya Salon is a cooperative of artists, and they often host events for the beauty industry and community.

Azelle was drawn to the beauty industry as a way to explore her artistic side in tandem with her love of supporting others. Her advice for others in her profession – “Say yes and believe!”

A big fan of the shops on Mission Street she notes Munch Company, Hotbox Vintage, Retreat and more as some of her favorite local South Pas spots.

Read our interview with Azelle below:

Provide a brief description of your business’s services or products:

A place for your hair & skin needs. We are a cooperative of artists whose goal is to make you feel beautiful inside and out. We also host events for the beauty industry & community.

What brought you into this field of business?:

The beauty industry brings out my artistic side, but I also love supporting others. I’m so grateful to have a business that does both.

What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?:

Say yes and believe!

What do you enjoy most about doing business in South Pasadena?:

Everyone is so friendly, super supportive and helpful!

What is your favorite local spot?:

So many! Munch Company for lunch, Hotbox for vintage/ethical fashion, gifts from Retreat, Handle and Dual Crossroads. I love Mission Street!

What do you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?:

Travel. To broaden your horizon.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Thailand – so pretty and lots to do! I recommend taking a cooking class, visiting an elephant sanctuary and attending a full moon party!
